Blue Florals and Pink lips

7
I've been trying to incorporate more blue into my wardrobe, because I tend to buy a lot of pink dresses and I feel like blue is less cloying. I've also been trying to buy more dresses in darker colours but I find
that quite difficult, partly because I can't find them and partly because when you see a cute summer frock I mean really how can I resist. Summer dresses always win that battle.
4
I live in a country where we enjoy beautiful Summer weather for hmm about 2 months and then its back to rain the rest of the year so when I look at my closet and see that 80% is summer clothing I sometimes just want to migrate for Winter. Anyone else think of the next season even though you're in the middle of the current one? I do that A LOT.

On another note, I have to repurchase the lipstick I am wearing here. Its my absolute favourite MAC Girl about town, its super creamy so I went through it fast but I love it, even though it leaves a weird patchy stain when I take it off. I also want to try and find a lighter lip colour but I think it might be weird going from bold lips everyday to light lips, but I want to try so I think a makeup shopping day is in my future.

Hope you all have a lovely day. :)

Pink and Mustard

6
Oh I feel like I took these pictures so long ago. It was the a couple of weeks ago now, just when us Vancouverites were starting to get real warm weather. (Finally). I have been spending much of my free time outside and I love it. I was never that person who really enjoys Summer, but now that has completely changed. I love Summer, it is probably my favourite season. I just love the simplicity of it, and the smell, just yesterday I was at the beach and walking along the pier where the wild flowers are uh the smell is amazing. Its hard to explain but that smell of warm grass and salty air. I could just sit there for hours just enjoying everything. Although reapplying suncream gets annoying after a while, but us pale variety have to so as to not look like a lobster.

I love this dress, I think the shape is perfect and because it is thin straps it is perfect for those hot summer days. Also I have seriously been loving mustard and pink together. I would have never thought to pair the two but after seeing Marianne of Esme and the laneway wear it so well I had try it, and I think its a new favourite combo. :)

I'll keep it short today but I will be back soon. I have a couple of post lined up, just a matter of posting now. I'll see you soon. Happy Tuesday. :)

Lately

Im back, re inspired and ready for the next season. I took a break from the internet...well I still went online to find gorgeous new to me dresses. I thought my first post back should be of what has been going on the the last couple of months. The pictures seem stretched here...opps.
IG-1

1. Wilfred my new Wisteria tree my absolute favourite...and yes I named a plane. 2. Mmm dessert for dinner, don't mind if I do. 3. Mongolian HotPot, perfect for and early spring storm. 4. My favourite road trip coffee. 5. Lilac oh they smelled so good. 6. Delicious sushi fest.

STRAWBERRY

Last Wednesday I went strawberry picking and then flower shopping, I like how the flowers matched my dress. :)

Well I'll be back later this week and am excited. :)

New Things and Spring Dreams

I am so glad to leave March behind, it was a pretty rough month for me so good riddance. Any hoo I have bought many new dresses and they finally arrived. (I actually have a couple stuck in customs or are just taking their sweet time to get here). The weather was amazing over the weekend, on Sunday it was 19c which is pretty much our summer here on the WestCoast, but today its back to the normal overcast :( I can not wait for warm weather again, I even bought a Wisteria plant yesterday, I love Wisteria and I think it's totally going to be worth the up keep. :) DRESSESThe dress with the red roses was a custom made dress from Oh Sew Vintage and I absolutely adore it  I've worn already a few times since it arrived. I don't think anything can ever beat a 50s style cotton dress.
DRESSES-CLOSEUP
Can you spot Mr.Fred?
purse
I bought this purse at the flea market, I don't think its vintage or anything but I love the look and it looked like it would keep things organized, I really dislike purses where everything is tumbling around on the inside. The best part was that it cost me $2.25. :)
lighthouse
I bought a few more things but didn't take a photo but I had to show this Lighthouse that really is a bird house. Oh I love it, I love Lighthouses and I just couldn't pass this up :) I hope everyone is having a lovely start to April, and have plenty of Easter Chocolates. :)

Toile de Jouy

My favourite thing of the week, Toile de Jouy ( you can find out more about the fabric in apartment therapy design dictionary ) If you haven't noticed I love the patterns, I had a curtains made because I love it that much. I know its not everyones taste but I thinks it so fun, and I think it all started with watch my most favourite show ever, Pushing Daisies. I took inspiration from Olive Snook's bedroom, the set design on that show is phenomenal and I can go on for hours so I'll stop here....or else I really will go on for hours and hours, I am hopelessy devouted to that show.

Pushing Daisies Screenshots by me
Olive's Pajamas match too.

Dita Von Teese
First off I have to say that I have a such a girl crush of Dita von Teese, I adore her and so wanted to purchase her beauty book but found out its not being release until November. Obviously I want her wardrobe, but she also seems so sweet and sincere in her interviews, she knows who she is and she owns it. Definitely not a pretentious celebrity.

I have be scouring the web in search of a blue Toile de Jouy 50s dress and have had no luck, I made the mistake of not purchasing a very well priced dress on etsy when I had a chance. Sad Stefanie. BUT Bernie Dexter to the rescue. The dress shape is perfect, however I really want it in the blue fabric like Dita's, so heres to hoping Bernie releases one in blue too.

Frenchie Dress
via Bernie Dexter

Can I just own all the Bernie Dexter dresses. So many pretties on that site. I really liked the Frenchie dress because it has a very similar pattern and the colours are beautiful. Below are a few dresses from etsy, I love them but sadly some weren't in my size or were in the red pattern.

Vintage 1950s Dress - Toile Print Day Dress in Pink and White

50s White & Blue Toile Print Full Skirt Dress by Jonathan Logan XS

vintage 1950s dress / 1960s dress / White and Hot Pink Toile Day Dress with Bow Belt/SOLD
As I was looking through my favourites on etsy to find these lovelies I got really sad seeing all the sold items. Anyone else get that? I get that pang in the stomach like "Dang why didn't I buy that" Oh well there is always more right?

Archie s Day

So on this particular Saturday I was invited to go to the Archie s comic launch at MAC which I was super excited about because when I was at the m.a.c store earlier that week the makeup artists were saying I would love the Veronica range because they saw that I like bold lips and makeup. The morning of, however I decided to do something completely different and go for the Betty look instead. I wanted to try something outside of my comfort zone of black eyeliner and bold lips, and I was thinking going for a lighter makeup look would look nice in Spring and Summer.

FACE

I liked how the eyes looked with the soft gold shadow and really liked the peach cheeks, but I think I still prefer a bold lip. Im thinking the eye makeup is light and neutral enough to wear a bold bright lip like m.a.c's girl about town which I have been loving. I'll have to try it someday.

ARCHIE-SMILE

Any-hoo this is what I wore that day, I wanted to wear something light and spring like to go with the makeup and the artists loved it and even "Archie" came and complimented me haha. I did get to take a picture with him but didn't get the email with it. :( I think I wrote my email wrong, I seem to do that a lot uh oh.

MACERENA

Oh look silly hand dance. :) Have a wonderful Wednesday!

My mind has been buzzing with new ideas but stagnant at the same time. (Mostly stagnant when it comes to school work...opps). Anyways I thought I would make a list of a few things that have been on my mind recently.

Blue or Pink Rotary Phone

I have been searching for a working rotary phone for a while but many are more than I am willing to pay for, because I don't really talk on the phone all that much, (I much prefer talking face to face).

I love the colours on this shoe, I think orange and bright pink go so well together and then there is an extra pop of bright yellow on the T-strap, perfect I say. Throughout Spring in Summer you can always find me wearing wedges, they are comfortable to walk in and kind of help you get used to walking in heels again after not wearing them as often in the Winter.

When I was a young child my neighbour convinced me that we can find fairies in the gardens, so every day we would go searching in the gardens for fairies and we would come back with anything that looked like it could belong to one in hopes that the fairy would come and find them. I want to get a hanging terrarium or even one that looks like a little house. Im thinking of buying a kit instead of a ready made one, and if you look through Etsy there are so many little accessories you can buy to really make it look like a fairies home.

This I am super excited about. I am saving my pennies (no more pennies in Canada so I am saving my nickels? nah doesn't sound the same). Anyways I have been researching about bicycles lately because I really want to get one so I can leisurely ride around and be comfortable on. I made the mistake of buying a bike at costco a couple years ago without knowing how I would like it and it turned out to be uncomfortable. I want one that I can sit up straight which is better for your back and neck on fun rides, and has a step through so I don't flash the public when riding in a dress. There are a few more things on my wish list for a bike but I won't list them here. I found this Papillionaire whilst researching and I fell in love. It seems sturdy enough that it will last me more than one Season and just look at the beautiful colours. Its perfection. They are having a Valentines sale on the Pink version of this bike and I am oh so tempted. :)

PASTIES

Pasteis de nata

Last but not least I made Pasteis de nata for the first time the other day. Its a traditional Portuguese egg custard tart and I have always heard that they are a pain to make at home and never turn out right because home ovens don't go as hot as commercial ovens, but these turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. They are supposed to look rustic which I love. The bigger tart I did think got a little overcooked but they are usually the smaller size anyways. I think I am going to experiment more to see if I can infuse more of a lemon taste into them. Mmm this is making me hungry.

Happy Thursday :)

Name Change

It might be too soon but I feel like I need to change the name of this blog. I came up with utterly whimsical over the summer after months of not deciding on a name. I think that's what stopped me from starting a blog sooner. I am extremely indecisive and was completely stumped on a name. I don't feel like this name suits me though, I want to treat this blog like a journal so I decided on naming it My Dearest Eva. Eva is a name very dear to me and I absolutely love names that start with an E. So I hope I don't out grow the new name anytime soon. :)

A Favourite

RED-NAVY-1

This is probably my favourite vintage dress and I didn't even buy it online. I found this beauty while browsing a local vintage shop, they were having a 50% off sale and I thought I wasn't going to find anything I really wanted.  I spotted a 50s shirtwaist dress with butterflies in autumn colours. They dress fit but funds were low and I was running late to meet a friend for  lunch.

RED-NAVY-DUO

Well my goodness after telling my friend about the dress and showing her a picture, we decided we had to go back and get it. As I was about to leave I saw this beauty hanging on the wall as a display and asked the owner if it was on sale, it was. yippee. BUT I was doubtful that it would fit but to my surprise it fit perfectly. Now it pretty much is my favourite dress. I even cried (kind of) when the shoulder ripped a bit :(, but quickly sent it to get fixed. I paired it with my thick knitted cropped sweater that I thrifted a couple of years ago. Why is it so hard to find cardigans that are either cropped or waist length? Im always searching for the perfect cardigan.

RED-NAVY-2

Well I'm off to enjoy some oranges with dark chocolate sauce and a cup of tea. Mmmm I hope you all have a lovely week. :) Oh Happy Valentines Day. :)

Awkwardness and frizzy hair

blurry

Ahh nothing like looking at a photo of yourself and realizing you are way overdue for a hair appointment, I think I keep postponing it because I am not sure what I want to do next. Same red hair or more copper a la Christina Hendricks or go back to brunette or just add highlights, then it thoughst like should I grow it out or cut it short again. Ahh I am at war with myself...ok not really but you get the jist. Also I think blurry photos are my thing. I don't know what it is but I like that it isn't clear but you see the silhouette and colours. Not everyones taste but I like it, at least for now.

dual

I got this dress back in September from etsy, it reminded me of this dress that Taylor Swift wore. Now I am not the biggest fan of Taylor (I do like her but Im not crazy about her and probably don't know much of her music) but I sure do like what she wears, gosh I so want her wardrobe.

Blue-Green

I was delighted to find out that my Jcrew cardigan matches it perfectly. Oh and my lips have remnants of trying on lipsticks at MAC after class. I bought Girl about town the other day but was doubtful of it and kept thinking about the more pink/coral Impassioned. As I couldn't remember what GAT looked like on me, and in the tube it looks rather intimidating, I needed to reassure myself that it was the right colour. Turns out I liked it so I kept it but am still a little hesitant on wearing it. I find it weird that I find it scary to wear pink or in this case fuchsia but I will wear any shade of red. Its completely out of my comfort zone I suppose. Heres to being more adventurous and less shy. Have a lovely Week :)

Dreaming

Dreaming, It's what I have been doing a lot of lately. Maybe its the January blues or the fact that I live in 'Raincouver'. It s been dark, rainy, constant overcast days, we had fog for a while and that was neat, but as any human would probably agree, too many dark days in a row its hard to want to get out of bed in the morning. I enjoy every season for what they have to offer but like they say too much of something is not such a good thing.

So I catch myself day dreaming of Spring and Summer, the bright twirly dresses, rainbow coloured flowers, the warmth of the air, the cool grass beneath your feet, the fresh fruit to be picked and enjoyed. Honey bees busy at work and the smell of fresh herbs in the garden, dinners eaten outside under fairy lights and twinkling stars. Ahh all the things I look forward too.

Dreaming

And because I haven't seen the sun in quite some time, I think I shall go make myself lemon tarts, or something with lemon in it. I'm sure its the perfect remedy.

All images are from Pinterest I just made a collage. :)

New Shoes

Yesterday I decided to go early into to the city for school. I wanted to have breakfast and I really wanted to go to MAC to get new lipstick. I wanted to see if they still had Absolute Power but they were sold out...Boo. I might just have to order it online. But since I was in the Bay I decided to look around because of all the sale signs, very dangerous. The Bay in Downtown Vancouver is huge and I still get lost because it seems as though one level or some corner that I used to know my way around is getting renovated. Anyways I got magnetically pulled to the shoe section. (Yup I am one of those girls, shoes are my weakness). I have been searching for a wooden platform sandals for over a year, at first I wanted the Swedish Hasbeens but decided I would get more wear in cooler months if I got a pair with a darker finish.

Coach

I found these beauties in a cramped corner and they looked way to small but I thought I would give them a go since I couldn't find any other pair. AND they fit, Hooray and were super comfy and weren't sliding all over the floor. Most wooden shoes I have tried don't have a thin rubber sole, but these do. Double Hooray. The best part was that it was 70% off, Triple Hooray. They are from Coach and I find that most Coach items have that C pattern all over it which is not appealing to me, these do have that patten but you can barely see them over the leopard print. Quadruple Hooray. Ok I think that is enough Hoorays from me.

Bokeh

Pin Curls

On a completely different topic. I have been pin curling my hair more but with setting lotion and loads of Hairspray from a suggestion from a friend and this is the result. I like the volume and the bounciness. Quintuple Hooray. I had to sneak one more in the post. :)

Wishlist

Oh boy it is so easy to lose track of time when creating a wishlist, but it is fun. I don't know what it is with me, but I seem to be only buying Summer clothing which is so unlike me. I have always liked Fall and Winter more than warmer weather, I like the coziness of staying at home with wooly socks and a good book...you get the picture. Anyways I guess I get caught up with light colours and spring florals I just can't help myself it seems.

I'm All Cheers Dress in Sundae Best

I have admired Bernie Dexter Clothing for quite a while and when I made my first splurge on one of her dresses this past summer I have completely fallen head over heels in love. Not many modern designers that do the vintage look get it as good as her. Plenty of fabric for the most perfectly full skirt, I didn't even need to wear my petticoat. Oh and since I am such a fan of novelty prints I just have the hardest time resisting getting them all. Boy oh boy I can go on for ages.

Little Hearts on the Prairie Dress

Wow I love this cardigan and it looks just like a vintage one. I am still on the hunt for more vintage cardigans like this but I don't want to spend to much and I have seen a few but they have a bit of damage, this one solves that problem as it is new and still just as soft.  I love gold and cream for winter and it is one of my favourite colour combinations of all time.

Again something I have been on the hunt for a while, black Mary Jane Pumps. Oh I am so tempted by these beauties.

I think these are just darling

Something for to brighten my desk

I love the cover of this book

Ah I bought this beauty on ebay and I knew that I didn't need to buy a lace party dress but it looks so pretty. I just don't have anywhere to wear it to. Ah maybe I can use the Vintage Tea Party book and make myself an event to wear it too. :)

    2013 Goals.

Never been one to make resolutions on New Years but I think this year I really wanted to write down a goal list as I usually write them down per Season. Im excited for this year.

    2013

       1. 365 Project

I have seen other blogger participate and I really want to try mostly because I want to start using my camera more. I wanted to try the instagram photo a day but boy I failed on those.

BUT there is one thing that I think will help me with the 365 Project

    NO RULES = NO PRESSURE.

I just want to take a photo of something every day and maybe post weekly updates on this little project.

        2. Drivers License

Im 21 and don't have my drivers license even though I really wanted to get at 16 it just keeps slipping by as the years go.

       3. Buy a Car or at least save for one

My dream car is a 1964 Studebaker Daytona. You may recognize this car from Wonderfalls (Jaye Tylers car!!)

       4. Save for a trip

I want to travel somewhere outside of BC I  have a few ideas on where to go but its not written in stone, I just want to save enough to go and not stress out.

       5. SKETCHBOOK

Im excited for this one, I have been told a millions times from my instructors at school to keep one and try to put something everyday, but I haven't kept up with it and I have been seriously lacking in the inspiration department.

       6. Make something New

Another exciting one. I love to bake and I like to cook so I wanted to make a goal to push myself to try a new recipe every week because of school and work I think once a week is doable.

Add onto this goal I want to push myself to craft or create something at least once a month. I really enjoyed making my lighthouse costume and I don't want to wait until halloween to craft again.

       7. Take more walks.

I want to take it all in.

       8. Read at least 1 book per season

Again 1 book per season so no pressure. Another thing that will help in the Inspiration Department.

Well my first goal list for the year, I will continue to make my Seasonal goals as I find it easier to keep to it. Also a big thing for me this year is the fact that this may be the only year I haven't put a weight loss resolution. I know I know it happens to everyone but this is big for me but I will save that conversation for another day.

What are your goals for the year?

    New Year 2013

    Happy New Year :)

So I decided to do a 365 challenge/project. Here is day 1 Baking a cheesecake Mmmm.

    DAY-1
